1960 Monterey Fuel system
#1
i just got a 1960 monterey from a guy where i live for a bargain $1000, catch is; the gas tank has holes in it. it won''t be so hard having them patched, but i was just wondering if anyone knew how the fuel guage system worked on these cars. the gas tank came in the trunk with no sign of a bobber and i don''t know where the linkage to the dashis. if anyone could give me some advice on how the bobber system works, it would be greatly appreciated.

I''m not sure about the older cars, but most of them that I''ve ever looked at have some kind of variable resistor connected to a float of some sort.
I would highly suggest getting a new fuel tank instead of patching the one you have if you can. patching a fuel tank is just asking for trouble down the road. If you can''t source a new tank, then make very sure to get as much rust off as you can and maybe even get it coated with something that gasoline won''t eat through. This way it won''t rust out or in.
