It sure looks like you had a "a case of cold green hineeken" when you wrote this post. Might want to consider that many of us try to help, and we can only relate to what and how you are posting issues here.
If you already have your "verdict", then it's too late. If you want to dig a little bit, there are sometimes interesting things to find out.
The "check engine" light not only comes on when something out of the ordinary is happening in or around your engine, but also, as you already discovered, when other things are happening. On some cars (like the Dodge Caravan, see my other post), even the a/c is hooked up to the miracles of automotive engineering monitoring.
The electric manual of the GM states that you should have your vehicle checked if the light comes on, unless it goes off, which means the issue has been resolved (whatever that means) or the issue for the light to come on in the first place, is resolved.
Now, for example (referring to what experienced myself), if the light comes on and stays for a misfire, it was reset (in my case), and never came on again. The ignition probably had a hick up, no big deal if the light stays off.
I would always recommend to reset the system first, because of that. If the issue is resolved or not persistent anymore, fine. If the light comes on again, then investigating should be done.
My buddy's GM was red out, the code said "Converter lock up i/o", which the dealership stated as "inoperable". Now, the car place which red the code only got a "transmission" reading, not knowing what the exact cause was. The dealer was able to narrow and specify it down to the torque converter (the overdrive is engaged electronically).
We were able to solve the issue by disconnecting the electric connection to the switch on the transmission, clean it throughly (it's below the car, exposed to all kinds of debris, dirt and water), and reconnecting it.
I can not really believe that you already have a serious transmission issue on your car. And then, what exactly did the code say?
Why don't you drive the car with the system reset and see what is happening? Your fluid should be at the proper level of course.
It never hurts to get a second or third opinion. It's easy to spend money, it takes more time to ask around, but it is worth more to investigate and often safe a lot of money.
And what about adjusting your mission and post it in the corresponding forum. That's where you most likely find answers.
